In summary,
  • We do remember that your brain is a part of your body. When possible, we try to address your sleep quality, thyroid, adrenal and sexual hormones, inflammation, etc. to minimize the use of psychiatric medications.
  • We not only use a variety of medications, from traditional to the newest on the market, but also supplements, peptides, vitamins, and medical food, proven to be effective alone or alongside the medications. Dr. Mark Shukhman is one of the experts in the filed of LDN use in psychiatry.
  • We offer a variety of hard to find treatments, such as TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation), Ketamine (IV or intranasal (Spravato). One of our associates, Jerret Helstern, is involved in MDMA and psychedelics research projects.
  • We offer innovative approaches to treatment of opioid dependence, especially in the context of chronic pain. We developed successful strategies for decreasing the daily amount and also for weaning off of  opioids and benzodiazepines. We use Sinclair method to help control alcohol consumption and Vivitrol or Antabuse for sobriety maintenance.

In case of an emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room immediately. Our outpatient office is not equipped to handle emergency cases.

This list is incomplete and not every provider accepts all the insurances listed.
Please text/call (847) 563-4488 if needed.

Commercial insurances:

  • PPO: BCBS, Aetna, Cigna, United (some plans) OptumHealth, Beacon, ValueOption, ComPsych, Oxford, Humana.

  • HMO: BCBS HMO group 447 (NorthShore), Cigna HMO

 Government insurances:
  • “Medicare + Secondary” , Tricare, WellCare, Meridian, BCBS community services.

Please remember: it is always better to call YOUR insurance and clarify YOUR BENEFITS with THEM. THEY have the most accurate and up to date information.

When you are talking to your insurance, do not forget to ask …

  • is the same insurance company paying for psychiatry/mental health and general medical health? For example, your insurance card can have the BCBS logo on front, but your mental health benefits are covered by another insurance. This information is usually written in small print on the back of the card.

  • is the provider you want to see in network? Your insurance may determine your portion of the bill differently for in- and out of network providers.

  • about your deductible. The deductible is the amount you have to pay out of pocket before your insurance starts paying its portion.

  • what is your co-payment (a pre-determined amount you need to pay) or co-insurance (a percent of the bill which is your responsibility… after the deductible is paid)?

How much I will be paying?

  • When we send the bill to your insurance, it is the insurance company, which, based on your plan,  decides how much to pay us and how much they expect you to pay. We do not know these numbers until your insurance tells us. They also communicate this information to you via their website (or via mail or email.) Some of the companies will answer this question to YOU, if you contact them.

  • if you pay out of pocket (if we do not bill your insurance) , then we are in control of what we charge.

Can I pay out of pocket?

If your plan has a high deductible, it may be less expensive to pay our of pocket. Call the office to discuss your case.
